Description: Company Profile: Teledyne RD Instruments specializes in the design and manufacture of underwater acoustic Doppler products for a wide array of current profiling and precision navigation applications. General Overview: This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager and supports the Production floor as well as all related electronic engineering matters for standard products manufacturing. This role is responsible for choice of concept and development of testing processes, writing procedures and test software, creating databases for test data capture, training and assisting technicians in test and troubleshooting, providing leadership in new product development for Manufacturing Engineering and disposition of Material Review Board materials. This role reviews all processes, procedures, and past data and implements continuous improvements in both hardware and software to maximize quality, accuracy, consistency and standardization, flexibility and cost reduction. This role is the expert in “state-of-the-art” techniques in test design and processes and leads these new processes into product development. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, versatile with many skill sets, driven to improve processes with the ability to collaboratively work across the organization as a member of the team. The successful candidate will possess the following: Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors; Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; Interact with senior internal and external personnel; Normally receive little instruction on day to day work, general instruction or new assignments; Ability to balance multiple priorities and duties to meet schedules for projects and promise dates; Must be team oriented among a cross departmental environment and participate in developmental projects for new products, interface with manufacturing, materials, outside vendors and consultants; Working knowledge and experience with a Product Development Process and experience with new product introduction and support is a must. Candidates must have a clear understanding and practice of efficient test strategy and implementation of strategy; Successfully demonstrate analytical and diligent approach and documentation of work and evaluation in every aspect of their work; Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years experience in both analog and digital electronics and testing, or equivalent experience. Must have training and skills in upper mathematics, statistics. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills for the business environment. Must be experienced in new product development, test software and hardware development. Must have a working understanding of printed circuit board fabrication and assembly. Working knowledge and experience with Lean and Six Sigma techniques, tools and practices are required. Candidate must demonstrate experience in statements of work, schedule and budget preparation for projects that he/she is responsible for. Must have knowledge in state of the art lean concepts and have a track record showing positive results from implementation of lean concepts in a manufacturing environment. Must be familiar with Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Must be experienced with all forms of test equipment including, but not limited to: oscilloscopes, DMM, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, function generators and frequency counters, simple hand tools, power tools and simple machines used in production. Must have excellent computer skills and be intimately familiar in ERP/MRP business systems, Access, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge and experience with “in circuit testing”, “JTAG” implementation and use and “Flying Probe” implementation is a plus. Additional desirable software skills include familiarity with relational database design and MS SQL Server, the Microsoft.NET development environment and or LabVIEW, and browser-based development technologies.
